Tame Impala: Lonerism (2012)

“I just keep on lying to you…”

I have a tendency to think to myself, “At this time last year, I was doing X.”

If I were to ask that of myself today, it would be walking around the Upper East Side, listening to Lonerism by Tame Impala. I had just discovered the album (thanks to Spotify Radio) and it was my go-to soundtrack for walking to and from work. The melancholy, yet chaotic sound was perfect for a brisk walk to work amidst the crowds.

I’ve heard these guys called the “Trippy Beatles,” which I think is quasi-accurate, and a feat in itself. The sounds on this album come at you from all angles, and sometimes it feels like you’re underwater. For the most part, I think that’s a good thing. If that’s what you’re in the mood for.

Suitable for: A brisk walk through crowded streets

Appropriate Playback Device: Earbuds
